Interesting Clocks

At the Science Museum we saw a lot of clocks. Some of them were really, really old. We even saw some sundials. A sundial is what they used to use before clocks had been invented. They used the sun to tell the time.

Roman Numerals
Most of the clocks had roman numerals on them not the numbers we usually see like 1, 2, 3.
I is 1
II is 2
III is 3
IV is 4
V is 5
VI is 6
VII is 7
VIII is 8
IX is 9
X is 10
XI is 11
XII is 12
That is roman numerals.

This is a clock with roman numerals on it.

This is a pocket watch with roman numerals on it.
Grandfather Clocks
Grandfather clocks are very old. They are very tall because they have long pendulums. The pendulum swings from side to side to keep the clock ticking.

Lamp Clocks
I liked an old clock I saw because you put a candle or an oil lamp in it and then the light shines through. At night they could see the numbers to tell the time.

Pocket Watches
Pocket watches are little so that you can fit them in your pocket and in your jacket. If you are a lady/girl you can put it in your purse.

I like looking at the clocks at the Science Museum because there are so many different types. I have never seen such cool clocks before.

Beautiful Peacocks

Two days ago we saw heaps of peacocks. They were at the park. Peacocks have heaps of beautiful colours like blue and green but the girls are just brown. Why the boys are so beautiful and the girls are really not so pretty is because the boys want to attract the girls to get in love and have more peacocks. The girls are brown because they have to protect the babies so if predators come they don't eat them. The feathers on the girls help them to blend in with the ground.

Squirrels.

We see heaps of squirrels in London. Squirrels have bushy tails and big eyes. They have pointy ears and they are brown. They have small arms and legs. Have a look at what they look like

Yesterday we were lucky enough to see some cute squirrels at the park. They were up a tree so we threw some popcorn on the ground. They hurried down the tree to get the popcorn. They picked it up with their little hands and went back up the tree to go and eat it. They looked so cute eating it.

I think squirrels are super cute.

Sock Caterpillar

How to Make a Sock Caterpillar

I made this cute sock caterpillar using one sock, buttons and a few other things.

To make a sock caterpillar, you will need:
  • 1 sock
  • Tissues or stuffing
  • Wool or Cotton - wool is best
  • Scissors
  • 2 Buttons

Steps:

1. Push a ball of tissues into the toe of the sock.
2. Tie wool around the sock to make the first ball.
3. Push more tissues into the sock.
4. Tie around the ball with wool.
5. Stuff the heel of the sock with more tissues.
6. Tie the ball with wool.
7. Put more tissues into the sock.
8. Repeat to make the head. Now you should now have four balls.
9. Cut the extra piece in half to make two antennae.
11. Cut each antennae into three strips. (You will have six strips)

12. Plait the antennae on either side.
13. Sew the buttons onto his or her face. If you want to you can use some leftovers to add details. I used some leftovers to put a smile on mine.

My sock caterpillar.

Post a comment of what you think I should call him.

Dinosaurs

Today me and my mum and big brother went to the Natural History Museum. We went to see the dinosaurs. I thought they were very interesting.
We went into a room with a robot t-rex. He was moving his head and roaring. He was blinking. It was so cool.

I got to hold a real dinosaur’s tail bone. It was so amazing. It felt lumpy on some parts and smooth on some parts.
If you like dinosaurs you should visit the Natural History Museum. There are lots of interesting things to see and touch.

Here I am holding a real dinosaur's tail bone.

Living in London

Have you ever wondered what it is like to live in London? I am going to tell you because I am living in London for a year, so listen up!

Our house in Tauranga was in the country but in London it is in the city. Our garden is very big in Tauranga but here in the city of London it’s very small. Here, have a look.

Our mail came in a mailbox in Tauranga. But here it comes through a flap on the door. We get excited if we hear the noise it makes.

Walking is exercise and exercise is good for you and we have to do heaps of walking because we do not have a car. But we can go in the car when people that we know pick us up. When we go far away we go on the train. The train goes under the ground. That is why it is called The Underground.

In Tauranga, we went to Tauriko School. Here we do not have to wear school uniforms because there is only the two of us. We do not have to listen for the bell. We do the same types of school work but we can choose what we want to do.

So now you know what it is like to live in London. I hope you enjoyed my story. I hope that you get to come to London one day. If you have any questions you can post them as a comment and I will answer them. If you are in New Zealand, you might have to wait a while though cos in London I am asleep when you are awake, and when I am awake you are asleep!

Oh I hear the mail coming. I’d better go!
