At the Science Museum we saw a lot of clocks. Some of them were really, really old. We even saw some sundials. A sundial is what they used to use before clocks had been invented. They used the sun to tell the time.
Roman Numerals
Most of the clocks had roman numerals on them not the numbers we usually see like 1, 2, 3.
I is 1
II is 2
III is 3
IV is 4
V is 5
VI is 6
VI is 6
VII is 7
VIII is 8
IX is 9
X is 10
XI is 11
XII is 12
That is roman numerals.
This is a clock with roman numerals on it.
Grandfather Clocks
Grandfather clocks are very old. They are very tall because they have long pendulums. The pendulum swings from side to side to keep the clock ticking.
Lamp Clocks
I liked an old clock I saw because you put a candle or an oil lamp in it and then the light shines through. At night they could see the numbers to tell the time.
Pocket Watches
Pocket watches are little so that you can fit them in your pocket and in your jacket. If you are a lady/girl you can put it in your purse.
I like looking at the clocks at the Science Museum because there are so many different types. I have never seen such cool clocks before.
